Animals in Action: Implementing and Growing an Active Animal-Assisted Therapy Program Tami Fleshman, CTRS, CCAP, HTR, of Good Samaritan Hospital This session describes the experience of implementing and growing an active animal-assisted program. Volunteers for Delta Society, Inc., and Therapy Dog, Inc provide support (education, training, observation) for 55 volunteers who provide over 5,000 volunteer hours. One dog is also a member of the Funny Bones Caring Clown program. Activities include hospital visits, modeling for the annual calendar, Library Paws to Read program, parades, nursing home and physician office visits, children's camp, and Kidz Explore. Resources are shared with attendees as well as shared experiences for growing a program, and lessons learned. |
