Therapy Dog Training

There are many organizations that provide certification or registration for your pet. The two main organizations our program uses are Therapy Dogs Inc., and Delta Society. These organizations provide testing and certification or registration, insurance, and member benefits. If you are interested in becoming a therapy dog team, the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program is a good way to start the training process. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:

Accepting a friendly stranger
Sitting politely for petting
Appearance and grooming
Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Walking through a crowd
Sit and down on command and Staying in place
Coming when called
Reaction to another dog
Reaction to distraction
Supervised separation
Use of Correct Equipment
Proper Use of Encouragement
